CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) - Shalena Cook Jones (D)has been reelected as the district attorney for Chatham County.
Shalena Cook Jones grew up in Brooklyn, New York. She says she feels firsthand experiences of violent crime shaped her unique perspective on the complexities of crime, poverty, economics, mental health and social and criminal justice.
She pursued a degree in Sociology with a focus on Legal and Urban Studies from Spelman College. She then continued her legal education at the University of Georgia School of Law, graduating with honors in 2002.
While in law school, she interned at the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office, which she credits for providing insight into the everyday workings of the criminal justice system.
Jones says she ran for district attorney of Chatham County to fight for a system that works for everyone. That would include the prosecution of violent felonies, community engagement, advocacy for victims, early case resolution and youth intervention programs.
