BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — All of Massachusetts is under a Wind Advisory Thursday as high winds rock the state.
The National Weather Service advisory is in effect until 10 p.m. Thursday, and the NWS said winds have already reached peaks between 55 mph and 65 mph. The strongest winds were at Mt. Tom in Hampden Count with gusts peaking at 65 mph shortly after 4 a.m.
The NWS said Thursday morning the high winds could bring down branches, power lines and weakened trees, advising residents to secure anything outdoors that could be taken by the wind.
Shortly after 11 a.m. on Thursday, there were 10,525 power outages reported, according to the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency. But by 3:48 p.m., that number dropped to 4,314 outages.
Travel may also be difficult due to sudden wind gusts, according to the NWS.
