BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — More than 150 barn animals are recovering at MSCPA-Angell facilities after being rescued from a Hadley farm due to alleged animal neglect and cruelty.
According to the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA-Angell), the organization’s law enforcement team executed a warranted search and seizure at the property on Lawrence Plain Road with the help of Hadley Police on Wednesday.
“Many of the animals lacked access to food and water,” Chris Schindler, MSPCA-Angell Law Enforcement Director, said. “The majority were also living outdoors without adequate protection from the elements.”
The rescued animals included several species of exotic birds as well as cows, goats, sheep and a pony. There was also some illegal wildlife, including a deer and Canadian geese.
Hadley Police said the investigation into the farm found that these animals lacked appropriate access to food, water and shelter.
The major operation deployed three trailers, five vans and dozens of staff members to safely remove the animals from the property.
Following the rescue, the animals were brought to MSPCA- Angell facilities for recovery.
No other information on what happened with the owner of the animals was released.
