ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WBZ News Radio) — New England Patriots star Defensive Tackle Christian Barmore was charged with Assault and Battery, according to court documents.
According to documents in Attleboro District Court charges were filed on Dec. 16 against Barmore for misdemeanor assault and battery charges on a household member. The charge holds a penalty of up to 2.5 years in prison, and fines of up to $5,000. He will be arraigned in court on Feb. 3, according to documents.
Barmore missed most of the 2024 season with blood clot issues but has played substantial minutes in 2025 for the AFC East Champion Patriots.
WBZ News Radio has reached out to Barmore's lawyer David Meier for comment on these most recent charges, he responded with a statement:
"We are confident that the evidence will demonstrate that no criminal conduct took place. Based on the facts and the law, we expect that this personal matter will be resolved in the near future and both parties will move forward together.
On Barmore the Patriots did issue a statement:
"The New England Patriots are aware of reports regarding a pending February arraignment involving Christian Barmore, which stems from an alleged domestic incident that occurred in August. The Patriots were made aware at the time of the incident and informed the NFL in a timely manner. The matter remains part of an ongoing legal process. We will respect that process, continue to monitor the situation closely, as we have over the past few months, and cooperate fully with the league. We will have no further comment at this time."
Patriots Head Coach Mike Vrabel held his regularly scheduled press conference just after 1 p.m. Wednesday where he was asked about Barmore and Stefon Diggs, a second Patriots player who was charged with assault and battery earlier this week in a separate incident.
Barmore has had run-ins with police in the past. In 2024, he was stopped by police in Providence, R.I. for an unregistered vehicle and cited after a tense traffic stop. He was then described as "belligerent" and "aggressive." Barmore responded at the time saying those claims were racist, he later posted an apology online.
