BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Salvation Army Boston Kroc Center in Dorchester gave out Christmas presents for their annual Christmas Castle event.
Families that cannot afford Christmas gifts this year were able to grab two gifts for each child they have from a wall of toys provided by the Salvation Army, along with a food gift card.
Joe DeLorenzo is on the Greater Boston advisory board for the Salvation Army and has been a part of this event for 27 years. According to him, thousands of toys and food gift cards have been given out to families who needed them, and thousands more will be given out over the next few days.
“We will be giving out over 12,000 toys, servicing over 3,000 today,” DeLorenzo said. “There's a line out the door.”

Megan was one of the mothers that was able to get gifts for her daughter through this event.
“I was so grateful that I was able to give my daughter something that honestly I wasn't able to do without Salvation Army,” Megan said. “I thought a ring light would be perfect for her; she's very into showing off her talents and I just want to support her.”
General Secretary of the Salvation Army Massachusetts Division Major Elijah Kahn was also at the event, sharing his excitement for helping families in need during the holiday season.
“This is always an exciting time to see families in need to come to receive Christmas assistance from the Salvation Army,” Kahn said.
The Christmas Castle gift distribution event is going from Dec. 8 to Dec. 10.
