MARBLEHEAD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Educators from Beverly, Gloucester, and Marblehead held a rally on Beacon Hill Tuesday to call for Gov. Maura Healey to intervene after their strike enters a second week.
Classes in all three districts were cancelled on Tuesday, Nov. 19.
Tuesday's march to the State House was organized by Marblehead Educators Association, who are on day 11 of the strike with no end in sight.
“We are here today standing in solidarity… calling on the governor to step off the sidelines and be the advocate-in-chief she promised to be,” said President Hannah Partyka to the crowd.
Negotiations are gridlocked on paid parental leave and increasing salaries for paraprofessionals.
“We are going to get loud,” Partyka said. “We are going to let them know what we need.”

The question of making up lost school days has become a byproduct of the strike.
The Beverly school committee said spring break could be cancelled and graduation delayed if teachers and students are not back in the classrooms soon.
Meanwhile, Gloucester School Committee said missed days will be added to the end of the calendar school year.
Massachusetts mandates that students must attend a total of 180 days of school per academic year.
