BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Waymo, the self-driving car company owned by Google's parent company, Alphabet Inc. is making its way to Boston.

While some fancy the idea of driverless cars, others aren't so sure.

"It's a machine, you know what I mean. And I don't know who you talk to if it's not going the right way. So I'm not too sure on that," said Tawanna from Boston.

And she's not alone. According to AAA, only 13% of U.S. drivers trust self-driving vehicles.

Since 6 out of 10 U.S. drivers are afraid to ride in robotaxis, Waymo plans on putting a human behind the wheel during their Bay State test run.

For Tawanna, that reassurance might be what she needs to change her mind about autonomous vehicles.

"It has to really be tested out. You know what I mean. The kinks and the coils of the things that go on in those types of things."

Bostonians can expect to see the Waymo-branded vehicles on the streets at the end of May.
