YARMOUTH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) A Yarmouth Select Board member is apologizing after an awkward hot mic moment at a special town meeting last week.

There was a discussion at the meeting about relocating a pump station away from a local cranberry bog, and after some intense discussion, Select Board member Joyce Flynn was heard saying “God, I’m sick of these people” when her microphone was on.

Flynn apologized for her comment last week, saying she made an “unguarded” remark out of frustration when someone objected to hand-counting the votes.

She also said her voice was misidentified as that of the town clerk who was overseeing the vote count.

The measure to relocate the pump station passed by a vote of 100 to 88.

Flynn said in her apology that she wants to make sure the meetings are “spaces where everyone feels valued and heard.”
