Studio Wars: The Bid Awakens
Disney told 21st Century Fox “hey we want to buy you...how does $52.4 billion sound?” Comcast said “hold my beer….” and went in with a $65 billion wager. Right now, the decision is still all up to the 21st Century Fox board when they vote on July 10th. There is a rumor circulating that Disney and Comcast will split the company in half. Disney would fight for the complete rights to Star Wars and Marvel properties that 20th Century owns and Comcast would want the TV stuff. Fair deal? Nah...that’s why I think it’s an all or nothing for the company.
X-MEN news! CineEurope 2018 was this past week in Barcelona, Spain. It’s a giant film festival and some test footage was shown for the upcoming 2019 X-Men: Dark Phoenix with Sophie Turner playing Jean Grey aka the dark Phoenix. So far the reviews for it are good...but that’s just test footage. So...we wait..some more.
Captain Marvel was also on the docket. Marvel Studios is really giving her some love. Talks of making her the new face of the MCU. I guess this means we say bye-bye to the original Avengers soon!
WONDER WOOOOMAAANNNN! The official title for everyone's favorite amazonian sequel is called Wonder Woman 1984. And it takes place...in 1984. Some photos have been released but there is a shocking one...CHRIS PINE IS BACK! Is this a ghost? A shape-shifting villain? Or did he somehow survive his fiery plane explosion? That would kinda mess up continuity, especially since Batman mentioned his name to Wonder Woman in Justice League and she punched his ass out, but this is the DCEU...continuity SORT OF matters.
Aquaman stuff! I know he’s a guy that talks to fish, but I’m excited to see this movie. Apparently a trailer dropped at CineEurope over the past week but nothing here in the good ol' US of A.
Some Flash News! Hartley Sawyer aka Ralph Dibny — a.k.a. The Elongated Man is now a series regular on CW's The Flash. His superpower was nice change of pace for the show.
Incredibles 2 is now in theaters and had a really good opening night. Did you know the movie takes place in the 1960s? We all knew it was retro but here's the proof! Seeing it this weekend? You should. It's going to be a hot and humid.
To the Hasbro world. The Transformers spin off Bumblebee is due out this Christmas. If it does well, Paramount and Hasbro are looking to do more spin offs. Guess who would be next? Yup, Optimus Prime. Here is what the plan could look like.
