It's here....it's FINALLY here. Grab the cosplay! The mother of all conventions has arrived.
Happy Comic Con Weekend!
So far, a ton of information has already been announced. From Batman Beyond getting a complete series blu-ray release (including Return of the Joker) for it's 20th anniversary, some Marvel news regarding their TV future, and Hasbro announced some awesome new figures in the Power Rangers, Avengers, and Transformers lines that they have.
Some of that is in this geek freak of the week. All weekend news will be on my twitter, @MazOfRadio. Keep checking that and Rock101fm.com for all the updates.
This issue is just a taste of what is to come for this entire nerd-vana of a weekend. If you know that next year is going to be your year to head out to San Diego for the this monstrous event, there are some things you need to know. Bring a survival kit that should include the following:
- Deodorant
- Phone charger
- Comfortable shoes
- Water (LOTS OF WATER)
- Snacks
- STAY ON BUDGET (that one is super important)
Those are just the ones I recommend. For a more detailed list on surviving from people who have gone check out their list and tips here!
Alright, enough diddle dabble. Comic Con Weekend slows down for no one! Let's just right in. Grab the inhalers and let us Geek the Freak out!
Hush Little Batman...
The next chapter of the DC Animated Movie Universe is here! Batman: Hush arrives on Blu Ray and DVD on August 6th.
This story will focus on Batman battling the mastermind Hush, a man who is always one step ahead and planning on making Batman's life hell. On top of that, this movie will explore the relationship between him and his feline friend, Catwoman. Do I hear a Batman Wedding movie coming? Flash was getting married in Death of Superman and I'm sure Clark and Lois are now together officially after the events of Reign of the Supermen so it makes sense for Batman to want a little happiness. Right? Okay, maybe Bruce Wayne does. Batman wouldn't know happiness if it bit him in the cape. Check out the new clip below!
AND Let us take a moment congratulate the Dark Knight. On the eve of Comic-Con (Wednesday July 17th) Batman was the first character inducted into the brand new Comic Con Museum Hall of Fame in San Diego. Full story here
Go Go Ninja Turtles!
The comic crossovers are getting better and BETTER! Boom! Studios is launching a Power Rangers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle crossover! Now, this isn't the first time these two teams have battled together...let's go back to 1998.
Yes, I know, they weren't the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, but it was in the same continuity because the Space Rangers were the ones looking for Zordon after the previous original rangers retired.
In this up coming five issue mini series, Tommy (possibly in evil form) is the Green Ranger and forms an alliance with Shredder. So, the enemy of my enemy is my friend plays into this script and the Power Rangers and the Turtles team up to bring their foes down.
Ready for this? Until this series comes out decide which kind of pizza you will want to celebrate this crossover!
Holy Four! It's Thor Four!
It only took a few films to get the right director for the stand alone Thor movies but it seems they were happy with Taika Waititi and the positive response they got from Thor: Ragnarok that he is the right person to continue the story of the God of Thunder. So because this guy is from the comedy world (he also created and starred in the movie What We Do In The Shadows) It makes sense he would have a clever title...here are a few guesses.
- Thor Ragnarok 2
- What Thor Does In the Shadows
- Thor's Weight Lose Program
- Thor & Friends
- or possibly, quite simple...Thor 4
That last one has a nice ring to it, doesn't it? Right now Thor is off in the Galaxy with the Guardians after the events of Avengers:Endgame so if a movie were to be made focusing on Thor it would be set up after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.
Let's Go Back To O-Town!
Spunky!!!!! 90's nostalgia, let it set in! Coming back for a Netflix movie on August 9th is Rocko's Modern Life! You might be thinking...why Netflix? Well, remember how raunchy the show was back in the day? In today's PC world that show could NEVER air on Nickelodeon. Even if it was on later in the night. By having it on Netflix they can get away with more adult humor and situations. Check out the teaser below and be ready to sing along to one of the best theme songs out of the 90's.
The Agents Are Retiring
The longest running Marvel TV show was given the same fate as it's Netflix cousins, Agent's of SHIELD is ending after season seven. This weekend Marvel is expected to make some major announcements. So even though this story has ended...new ones will begin!
So this weekend, it's going to be packed and loaded with so much nerd news. It's really the best time of the year! Looking for some live comic con coverage? The TV channels and live streams have dwindled over the years but the one that has been growing more is IGN. You can watch via YouTube and their own App. It's my go-to for comic con coverage.
Don't forget to check out the Geek Freak of the Week Podcast. Search for it on the FREE iHeart Radio app or anywhere else you get your favorite podcasts from. Their will be a comic con focused one coming up once all the info settles in. Another episode will be posted next week and that will be all about the Lion King remake. So it's going to be a busy few days! Enjoy Comic Con weekend. I'm Maz and that's the Geek Freak of the Week.
